Winternats extend's racing scheduele . . .
What are peoples thoughts?

I liked the fact that Monday was a public holiday and was able to drive back to Sydney on that day, still and extra days racing sounds good to me

Getting 1 day of work is hard enough. But if it needs to be done because of comp numbers increasing than they probably don't have a choice.

Makes good sense after all we have to fit all those nitro funny cars in some where.

BRING EM BACK. How cool would that be a group of nitro funny cars at the winters what dreams are made of.

Weren't we all complaining about the event being run at night and needed to expand to four days a few months ago?

Good on Willowbank. Its the biggest event of the season so take that extra day off work and go there. Its better than strangling the event with its own growth.

Bloody good on 'em I reckon. Apart from the locals, most people are there by lunch time Thursday anyway, so its no real big change. And you only miss 1 session if you cant make it, so no biggie there either.

Matt

Bam, who's whinging?
Matt, 1 session is a big deal to some teams, especially the first.
Crew are hard to find especially with them taking time off work. Hope to be there but the boss isn't going to be happy. As I said in my original post, if this needs to be done becasue of the growth, than we will have to figure out a way to be there as you don't wanna miss the winters. And yes davo, I am sure the event has been moved to 4 days to cater for fc. Now that would make for a good winters.

How about we just sell the lot and put together a nitro fc team together.

If we aren't going to use real names on this forum it should atleast be that you cannot use another persons name. Unless this guy really is Frank, oh and I am really John Force. Moderators???????

With a post like that you have no idea what it takes to run a drag car/bike. If you run a s/street, m/bike, sc/o, m/a ,t/d, ta, t/f or nitro f/c no one goes out there to blow up or oil down the track.( Not anyone that I know off.)

One day you should get out on the track and show everyone how easy it is to get down with blistering numbers and no mishaps. Records dont come easily!

But by reading your post, you have already done that and it is so easy to do.

Happy Gilmore SC/O 3765.

Re: Winternats extend's racing scheduele . . .
Da Bing im sure you really are John Force.
Do you people remember why funny cars got the flick as a championship bracket in the first place, the Number 1 reason was not the low numbers but the fact not many could get past 100ft and alot of them oiled the track.
This caused fans and track promoters to be unhappy therefore the class was scrapped.

F.M/(dipstick) why not show up at a meeting with your race car/bike and show everyone how it is done as you are odviously an expert from your keyboard.

Re: Winternats extend's racing scheduele . . .
Boy it only takes a few wise words to go off a subject, hey everyone have a look at the post.

Willowbank are not going to the extended format until 2009, the 2008 Winternationals is still the same format as last year with some changes to keep it flowing and making a better show. This should give everyone time to PLAN their racing schedule, good on you Rod and the people that have suggested the change and put it through the Willowbank Board to get this change happening, this is what happens when you have a think tank of officials and racers input to help the sport grow, listening is still a vital part of the Willowbank management team.

Yes Nitro Funny Cars are cool and I love watching them like I love watching everything that drag racing has to offer as a sport.

Re: Winternats extend's racing scheduele . . .
Hi guys just a quick note to extend on the press release put out today. Yes 2008 Winters will be starting on Thursday afternoon. The new schedule can be found on the willowbank site. We have tossed around the idea of extending to 4 days for the last 18 months but the Winters just gone made it obvious that we needed to do this fairly soon. The event has grown to the point that just fitting it into 3 days and try and not have it run into the cold nights is just impossible. Even with oil downs we averaged a run every 1.6-1.7 minutes over the weekend, which is, a pretty good average considering some of the lengthy hold-ups we have had.

This being said we came up with the 4-day schedule Friday through to Monday. This schedule has us finishing around 6pm on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Then on Monday we should be running finals around 4pm so people can have the chance of an early pack up and get on the road if they like. It also allows the crowd to get their families home and have tea and prepare for work and school the next day. It will also have 4 group 1 qualifying sessions 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. This is done for 2 reasons. 1 the crowd will have 3 days of value. 2 it is in preparation for the eventual 16 car fields. When they finally hit us we will already be prepared. The final qualifying session will become the first round without anything having to change. So at the end of the day the crowd can sit in comfort and see 3 full days of value instead of freezing there butts to the steel grandstands at 10.00 at night watching everyone smoking the tyres in the cold conditions. We can have more time to get everyone through and if we have the weather effect the weekend we have more chance of making sure the event is completed.

As we are only 7 months out from the winters and there is 2 much already in place it was to soon to introduce this schedule so we have come up with the temporary 3 ½ day schedule starting on Thursday. As we already have a fair few competitors already here on Thursday going through esp and setting up we figured if we get the word out now we would be able to start the event Thursday afternoon. Guys I know that some can struggle with crew and time off etc but this event has grown into the biggest drag race outside of America and this is the only way to get it through.

Hope to see you all there.

Cheers Rod Oberg
Willowbank Raceways Meeting Director.

Re: Winternats extend's racing scheduele . . .
You may find this hard to believe but funny car is actually my favourite class, ill never forget Romeo and his huge burnouts in the mid 90's. All im doing is merely just stating the facts about why they got removed as a championship bracket and that its going to be very hard for them to return. I will be rooting for them to return!!
